Foundations of Data Science Using R Bootcamp

Description
Data science is the new language in various disciplines. This bootcamp aims to gently introduce the fundamentals of data science, focusing on data analysis and visualization using R programming language, and ensuring reproducibility. It adopts a “code along” (akin to “dance along” in dancing class) using a “math-less” and “get your hands dirty” approach to learning R. It is suitable to students and researchers (at any age) who never work with code or syntax but wish to explore its possibilities.
Key lessons:
- Doing basic maths in R
- Uploading datasets
- Data analysis, from descriptive statistics to regression analysis
- Data visualization using R packages and LaTex for publication-friendly output
- Tips in using LLM to support data science
Requirements:
It assumes nil knowledge on R. But prior background in statistical analysis such as using SPSS will help. Participants should not be afraid of command-line oriented (as opposed to menu-driven) way of learning.
Computing resources:
Participants will bring their own laptop, either Windows or Mac are fine, and ensure that their laptop has Wi-Fi connection. We will send instructions on how to install R and the RStudio (the preferred IDE “skin” for R) before the bootcamp and ensure everyone’s computing resources are ready prior to the bootcamp.
