Panel topic description

Healthcare systems operate within a polycrisis where environmental shocks, geopolitical tensions, and cyber threats collide with population ageing and chronic illnesses. This wicked challenge demands a transition from reactive care toward proactive, prevention-oriented models while safeguarding national health security, digital infrastructure, and workforce safety. Navigating these interconnected pressures requires healthcare public management to develop adaptive governance, foster cross-sectoral collaboration, and establish resilient institutional strategies that protect human security, equity, and public value.

The Special Interest Group (SIG) Healthcare Management invites submissions (micro, meso, or macro perspectives) on the following topics:

  • Governance and adaptive leadership during polycrises and grand challenges
  • Proactive care models addressing population ageing, multimorbidity, and frailty
  • Health security, supply chain resilience, and critical infrastructure protection
  • Workforce safety, physical and mental wellbeing, and retention strategies
  • Ethical AI governance, cybersecurity, and digital health security
  • Multi-sectoral co-production, health equity, and public trust during disruptions
  • Climate resilience, green healthcare, and biosecurity preparedness

Theoretical framework and methods

The panel welcomes empirical studies (adopting quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches) with a strong linkage to the current literature and the ongoing academic debate. Critical analysis of new and/or innovative methodologies in healthcare are encouraged.

Panel format

  • Standard panel format for mature studies, with oral presentation followed by Q&A session
  • Roundtable discussion format for works featuring preliminary results and seeking constructive discussion
  • Poster session for short presentations of case studies and innovative professional initiatives

Please, indicate your preferred format in the submitted abstract. A workshop-type submission including practitioners might also be considered. The Reviewers retain the option to adjust the format in line with programming opportunities.

The best (submitted) papers will be eligible for a fast track in the journal Health Services Management Research.
