Practitioners–Academics Dialogues – Tuesday, 8 April 2025

Building on the challenge raised at IRSPM 2024—when Barry Bozeman highlighted that fewer than 20% of top-tier journal articles influence real-world decisions—the IRSPM 2025 creates a dedicated space for connection and exchange between those who generate knowledge and those who apply it.

Two of the conference’s flagship sessions are designed precisely to confront this enduring disconnect, fostering meaningful exchange between scholarly insight and the practical demands of public governance and management.

Plenary event - “The Intersection of Technology and Climate Action”

1:30 – 3:30 PM | Europa Auditorium

This plenary session at IRSPM 2025 opens a critical space for exchange between high-level researchers, institutional leaders, and practitioners from both public and private sectors and focus on a critical and timely issue: How can public administrations respond to the climate change, and what role can technological innovation play in this transformation?

Practice Panel P09

4:00 – 5:30 PM | Room 19 – Sala Galvani

The discussion will widen up to other challenges that public management faces in the current times and continue in the Practitioner–Academic Dialogue of Panel P09.

Comics Go to IRSPM 2025

Wednesday, April 9 | 8:30–10:00 AM / Location: open space, third floor of the conference center.

"Comics Go to IRSPM" is an experimental session exploring the intersection of art-based research methods and social entrepreneurship studies. The event is led by Professor Yanto Chandra (City University of Hong Kong), who has developed a series of comics through a multi-year research project in collaboration with professional artists and illustrators. The comics are now available in Amazon.com (herehere, and here).

These comics are among the first of their kind to translate complex academic concepts, challenges, and practices in social enterprise into accessible and engaging visual storytelling. They aim to bridge academic research and public understanding in an innovative and inclusive way.

The session will include a shared comic reading and an open discussion on both the content and the creative process behind the work. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, engage with the material, and explore how visual methods can enrich public management research.

The event is especially relevant for young scholars, but is open to anyone interested in social enterprises, nonprofit organizations, or exploring new ways of creating and communicating public value through research.

Registration is required, as places are limited.
